In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise-wide risk framework, enabling Conexus to strategically set risk appetite and manage risks to both protect and create value. You will be essential in establishing and executing an effective control environment and provide critical oversight at the enterprise level and in key areas such as cybersecurity, retail non-lending, and business continuity management.How you’ll be spending your timeEnterprise Risk Management

  • Developing and leading Enterprise Risk Management strategies with a focus on member needs, aligned with Conexus’ purpose.
  • Collaborating with the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, the Management Risk Committee and the Risk Committee of the board, to define and establish risk appetite and fulfill relevant accountabilities outlined in various terms of references and work plans.
  • Creating and maintaining the Enterprise Risk Management Framework to facilitate ongoing identification, assessment, management, and communication of risks while systematically measuring them against the risk appetite.
  • Developing processes for managing risk oversight functions and providing effective challenge to practices and decisions, ensuring they align with regulations, risk appetite, and strategy.
  • By fostering collaboration, partnerships, and training, guide and influence risk owners across the enterprise to align with the risk appetite, ERM Framework, and effective risk management through Conexus’ control environment

Operational Risk

  • Through the Manager of Risk Advisory, providing clear and concise operational policies and procedures to define and guide retail non-lending activities, ensuring effective risk management while balancing member service and regulatory guidelines.
  • Enabling the Risk Advisory team to provide guidance, advice, and coaching to retail teams in the execution of complex and unusual member transactions.
  • Ensuring an appropriate level of risk transfer by effectively placing enterprise insurance policies based on collaborative assessments with risk owners, regulatory requirements, changing environments, and strategy.

Business Continuity Management

  • Sustaining and evolving a comprehensive business continuity management program including governance, framework, playbooks, escalation parameters, and business impact assessments.
  • Holding others accountable for meeting business continuity requirements, while collaborating to enhance user experience.
  • Facilitating business continuity management oversight by the Business Continuity Management Steering Committee, the Management Risk Committee, and the Risk Committee of the Board.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to continuity teams and the organization through disruption events.

Cyber Security

  • Through the Manager, Information and Cyber Security, ensuring the effective oversight of cyber risk across the organization in alignment with current and future business decisions and strategy.
  • Fostering continuous improvement in cyber security practices across the enterprise, adhering to formal frameworks and best practices, to ensure the confidentiality, availability and integrity of information and systems.
  • Assessing risks and providing effective challenge over operational practices and decisions which influence cyber security risks.
  • Enabling cyber security risk oversight by the Management Risk Committee and the Board of Directors.

  • 10 years’ financial institution business experience.
  • 5 years’ senior leadership experience in risk management.
  • Graduate degree in commerce or business administration.
  • MBA, Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst, or Risk Management designation is considered an asset.
  • A relevant combination of experience and education may be considered.
