Main Purpose of Job:
The British Consulate-General in Wuhan is part of a world-wide network of 280 Posts and represents British political, economic, and consular interests in central China – specifically in Hubei and Henan provinces.
The Corporate Services Officer will report directly to the Corporate Services Manager (based in Chongqing). The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering effective finance, human resources, health & safety, learning & development, line management and administrative services to the Wuhan Consulate-General. The jobholder will also serve as a key member of the Corporate Services Team and will also work with partners in Corporate Services Team across the China Network.
What the Jobholder will be Expected to Achieve:
Finance
- Act as cashier, maintain the consulate cash box and prepare a monthly counting spreadsheet
- Act as requisitioner and receiver in the procurement process based on post requirements
- Process invoice payments and liaise with Regional Finance Hub to ensure punctual payment
- Process finance documents for post income such as sponsorships, staff refunds, etc.
Human Resources
- Support Country Based Expatriates with their visa applications and any other related issues
- Cooperate with the China HR team on Country Based Staff’s commercial insurance and medical checks, including moderation for contract bidding, liaison with supplier and Embassy HR team re any issues/complaints, service evaluations, etc
- Help with UK Based Staff and their family’s arrival and departure, including diplomatic ID card applications, local SIM card applications and local bank account applications, customs clearance for UAF and Heavy Baggage
Learning & Development
- Work with the China L&D Manager on Post’s annual learning needs analysis and Post’s L&D plan
- Implement L&D training and events
- Identify external L&D suppliers to meet learning needs at Post that cannot be met by the FCDO platform
- Work together with network L&D champions on network wide priorities and share best practice
Line Management
- Line manages 1* Driver (S1) at Post
- Oversight of driver’s booking calendar. Support to driver to maintain a well-organized schedule
- Oversight of post transport operation ensuring compliance with the China Transport Policy
Admin
- Deal with customs clearance for dip bags
- Back up Executive Assistant to Consul General during EA’s absence
- Support post major events and visits

- Gross monthly salary (before all deductions) of CNY 11,909 for Chinese Nationals paid in 13-month instalments and an abated monthly salary of CNY 16,219 per month for British Nationals and spouses/partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.
- Insurance plans such as social and housing fund (Chinese Nationals), commercial insurance package including accidental, life, medical and business travel insurance.
- 22 days annual leave entitlement in pro-rata which increases by 0.5 per full calendar year worked up to maximum of 25 days.

Working Pattern: Full-time, in-office employment. Availability for occasional irregular hours required (for which Time Off in Lieu will be available).
Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General Wuhan is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Chinese employment law.
