Main purpose of job:
This is a very exciting internship opportunity within the embassy communications team under the supervision of the Events & Partnerships Manager, supporting the Head of Communications and wider team with their activities and work to promote the UK as an key partner for Colombia, working proactively to promote the British Embassy motion and initiatives across all policy areas and ensuring robust internal communications. The intern will assist with the day-to-day running of the team, internal comms, and support in the organisation of events hosted or supported by the Embassy. 

Events (60%)

  • Support the team with logistics and occasional contact with suppliers for events that we host or are supporting. For example, arranging accommodation, transport, catering, audio-visual equipment, carrying material, stocktaking and special requirements.
  • Maintain good relationships with suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Support with the organisation of the Embassy Forward look and Residence Events Planner.
  • Support with Embassy Events Invitations and invitee lists.
  • Coordination and support with corporate sponsors (UK companies) of Embassy events.
  • Maintain a database of service providers.

Internal Communications (40%)

  • Design and production of content for internal screens and comms such as the Ambassador’s weekly message to staff.
  • Organisation of Embassy merchandise and marketing materials – banners etc – liaising with teams as required.
  • Support with the design and distribution of event invitations where necessary – curating attendee lists and liaising with teams.
  • Support the team where required on additional content creation.
  • Logging and collating media coverage.
  • Translation of documents when required.
  • Recording embassy subscriptions to newspapers and magazines and advising when any are up for renewal.
  • Administrative tasks as required.

  • Currently enrolled in the last semesters of an undergraduate university degree in journalism, communications, marketing or a related subject (advertising, digital marketing,  graphic design etc.) with at least 6 months left of studies
  • High attention to detail.
  • Responsible, committed to the job.
  • Sociable, able to interact and collaborate with different teams.
  • Works well against deadlines.
  • Interested in the UK.

Must have the legal status to live and work in Colombia. 

Language requirements: 

Language: Spanish and English 
Level of language required:  Spanish (native), English (B2 certified with IELTS or TOEFL). 

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel-Word-Power Point)
  • Knowledge of Design platforms particularly Adobe Illustrator and Canva
  • Knowledge and interest in global affairs.
  • Previous experience of event organisation

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

Working hours: Mondays to Thursdays 8:30 am to 17:00 
Fridays 8:30 to 13:30

Evening and weekends work may be required to support the events.
