Who we are:

The British Embassy in Kazakhstan is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, trade, and consular interests overseas, and is now looking for a Communications Officer.

Why should you apply?

The Communications Officer is responsible for delivering excellent Embassy communications through both traditional and social media channels. This role involves managing the Embassy’s social media accounts, creating engaging content, and supporting wider Embassy objectives.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Embassy’s social media accounts, particularly on Instagram, X, and LinkedIn, delivering high-quality, creative, and engaging content.
  • Update social media platforms, the Embassy website, devise communications campaigns, and test new and innovative approaches with significant autonomy.
  • Serve as the principal photographer and videographer for the Embassy, accompanying the Ambassador and other diplomats to events and regional visits.
  • Support the Communications Manager in engaging with local media, building and maintaining relationships with journalists, bloggers, social media influencers, PR specialists, TV, newspaper, and radio outlets.
  • Assist the Deputy Head of Mission in organizing major public diplomacy events, including the annual King’s Birthday reception.
  • Collaborate with other Embassy sections (Political, Economic, Trade and Investment, Defence, Consular) and the British Council to drive forward the UK’s strategic goals in the region.
  • Ensure consistent and impactful public communications across the full range of Embassy priorities, including regular reporting on content performance, social media analytics, and media impact.

  • Fluency in English, Kazakh and Russian, both written and spoken (minimum of C1 CEFR framework level language*);
  • Photography and videography experience;
  • Confident user of traditional and new digital media tools i.e., Photo and video, smartphones and apps, computers, microphones, projectors, editing/production software, monitoring & evaluation tools etc;
  • Ability to work independently, proactively, creatively and collaborate with others;
  • Strong organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail;
  • Good time management and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

  • Experience in press or public affairs;
  • Experience working for an embassy or international organisation.

This is a full-time, fixed term contract of expected 12 months subject to a 30 day probation period.

 

Salary will be 1,676 USD per calendar month (gross). Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.

 

The start date mentioned in the advert is just an expected start date. The appointment can start earlier or later depending on several factors. Flexible working may be accommodated on request.

 

Employees are entitled to annual leave entitlement pro-rata based on 25 days total per calendar year. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a professional background check and security clearance and is expected to commence employment as soon as possible. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Kazakhstan in order to apply. All applicants should have the right to live and work in Kazakhstan. The British Embassy does not sponsor applications for work permits.
