The British Consulate-General in Istanbul is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, consular and defence interests overseas and is now looking for a Corporate Services Officer.

The Corporate Services Team provides support to staff from around 12 UK Government departments across the Türkiye network (Ankara, Istanbul and five coastal posts).

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of financial and administrative support to contribute to the general and effective management of the British Consulate General and Türkiye Network.

Your responsibilities will include:

Finance and Accounting (40%)

  • Raise Purchase Orders and handling the relevant documentation;
  • Prepare Debit Memo forms for funds debited from Embassy bank accounts;
  • Complete miscellaneous payment forms for any adjustments or miscellaneous transactions related to accounts receivable;
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation for all debit memo and AR transactions;
  • Support Line Manager with the monthly variance analysis;
  • Verify invoice accuracy, match them with relevant documents, and process payments in a timely manner;
  • Maintain organized records of invoices, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to financial controls are in place;
  • Liaise with HQ Management Accounts and Corporate Services Finance teams at posts to open/close purchase orders and track payments, as and when needed;
  • Facilitate cash payments from the cash box to the imprest holders;
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of cash transactions;
  • Reconcile cash balances regularly and report any discrepancies.

Procurement (20%)

  • Take part in all procurement processes of the post and support the Line Manager by providing the necessary guidance;
  • Be the main point of contact for all staff regarding updates on Purchase to Pay processes, new forms and new charging instructions.

Other Administrative Tasks (30%):

  • Collaborate with colleagues, management, and external partners to provide financial support and guidance;
  • Updating the GEG;
  • One HMCG Platform Uplift forms tracking and processing;
  • Line Management of the Receptionist, Corporate Services Assistant and the On Call Receptionist;
  • Provide guidance and advice to HERA and Oracle Based system users across a large and busy Network at post;
  • Professional liaison with all stakeholders related to own area, such as banks, GSM operators, mobile handset providers, private health insurance companies, hospitals, schools and hotels, etc;
  • Post Language Officer duty – liaison with language schools and coordination of course provision for staff;
  • Absence cover for the AA grade receptionist as necessary.

Translation (10%):

  • Interpretation at internal/external meetings into English or Turkish;
  • Draft internal communications; briefing notes, background documents, minutes, agenda, etc.

 

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High-level of written and spoken proficiency in both English and Turkish at a minimum of C1 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*)

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance (or relevant work experience).

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in finance and/or accounting within an international multi-currency environment.

  • Understanding of financial data, preparation of purchase orders, and vendor contracts.

  • Proficient IT skills, particularly excellent skills in MS Office Excel.

  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills, with very good attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills with a strong customer focus.

  • Ability to work with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels.

It will be a plus:

  • Understanding of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).

  • Self-starter, proactive and persistent in leading and delivering.

This is a full-time, permanent contract,  for 5 working days (36.25 hours net), per week. 

The monthly salary for this position is 1,750 USD gross, paid in 12 instalments, AO level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law. 

All applicants should have the right to live and work in Türkiye. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits. 

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months. 

Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General in Istanbul are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Turkish employment law.
