Main purpose of job:
     
We are looking for an organised, dynamic, and pro-active individual to join our team for an exciting internship. The successful candidate will provide administrative support to the Department for Business & Trade (DBT) office in Santo Domingo, including (but not limited to): commercial, administrative, and logistic support.

Roles and responsibilities:     

Stakeholders’ management:

  • To request and coordinate meetings for the DBT team with public and private stakeholders.
  • To properly follow up confirmation on meetings requests, both for the DBT Team and business companies, via email and phone calls.

Provide cross-cutting support to the DBT Santo Domingo team:

  • To job-shadow the DBT team during meeting and serve as a note-taker. This includes preparing pre-meeting briefings and post-meeting readouts and action points 
  • Assist DBT Team translating official documents from English to Spanish and vice versa.
  • Provide translation support during receptions and meetings where a language barrier is present.

Event coordination: 

  • To Assist DBT Team in the coordination of visit programme and events.
  • Manage Guest Lists and RSVPs through email and phone communication.

Research: 

  • To assist the DBT Team in identifying potential business partners for UK companies interested in the Dominican market by conducting market research and gathering relevant data.
  • Maintain DBT resource library and ensure all files are updated and easily accessible, including contacts lists, agendas, reports, and presentations.

Essential on arrival:

  • Currently enrolled to obtain a bachelor’s degree in, International Business, Business Administration, or similar.
  • Experience in Customer Service, Event Planning or similar.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365.
  • Advanced command of written and spoken English and Spanish (Spanish and English testing will be given during interview stage).
  • Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of programs, particularly MS Excel.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and proactivity skills
  • Experience in data research, data management and data analysis.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in the Dominican Republic.

Language: English and Spanish.

Level of language required: Fluent

The British Embassy Santo Domingo is a small, busy embassy with a high performing, friendly team.  This internships is focused in the delivery of general commercial and administrative assistance, however, the DBT Intern is expected to be able to provide support in the delivery of events and other activities pertaining to DBT and wider Embassy objectives.
