BHC Accra is a large post, currently employing 40 members of staff from the UK and 200 Ghanaian members of staff from across 12 UK government departments), and is charged with delivering high impact and complex policy, programmes and campaigns on the full breadth of the Africa Strategy.  All staff embody the new Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s approach to cross-departmental ways of working and the High Commission aims to be a highly inclusive place to work, celebrating a workforce with both diversity of thought and background.

The successful candidate will play a key and dynamic role in the British High Commission’s Communications Team.

They will be part of the Communication Team’s work to build and deliver strategic communication products that highlight UK government priorities and policies in Ghana and across the world.

The successful candidate will capture and produce quality and tailored digital content for the UK in Ghana social media and other communications channels such as the gov.uk website for Ghana and internal communications channels used by the High Commission.

The successful candidate will manage the High Commission’s social media accounts including Facebook, X and Instagram. This will include creating, sharing and planning content for each channel and monitoring each channel for breaking news stories and trends.

The successful candidate will advise and support senior leaders across the Mission to maximise their official social media channels.

This role will sit within the High Commission’s fast-paced Communications Team, the successful candidate needs to be agile, flexible and be able to multi-task whilst working at pace. The successful candidate must be a team player and an excellent communicator who can recognise opportunities.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the management of the High Commission’s social media channels and gov.uk pages, photo and video production, creative graphic design, research and content gathering and forward communications planning.

Roles and responsibilities :

·       Produce high-quality creative digital content such as videos, graphics and photos using photography and filming equipment such as a digital SLR camera as well as being able to use the full Adobe digital suite.

·       Lead on the day-to-day running of the UK in Ghana’s official social media accounts including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and other communications channels such as the gov.uk website for Ghana.

·       Support senior leaders across the Mission to maximise their own social media channels.

·       Lead on the creation and implementation of a weekly digital content plan in-line with the High Commission’s priorities. This will then be used across the UK in Ghana social media channels.

·       Support and often lead on events and visits organised by the High Commission by shooting live videos and photography.

·       Support with media engagements and interviews in the field.

·       Share relevant content with media contacts.

·       Demonstrable skills using video editing software and ability to use software to build graphics such as Abode.

·       Demonstrable social media skills, including understanding social media trends.

·       Demonstrable skills filming and photographing using a digital SLR and photography equipment such as microphones, tripods and other sound recording equipment. 

·       Understanding of Ghana’s media landscape.

·       Excellent written & spoken English

·       Experience working on high-level events

·       Experience creating social media for PR or marketing purposes.

·       Experience working in a media organisation.

·       Ability to write and hold simple briefing sessions with journalists.
