The British Embassy Dubai is looking for an energetic person to work as a Part-Time Translator and Liaison Assistant, job grade AO on a fixed-term contract for three (3) years.

The jobholder will provide English to Arabic and Arabic to English translation services and will support the work of liaison through the translation of documents and correspondence. The role also includes some engagement with Arabic speakers. They will also be expected to perform a variety of administrative tasks to support the work of the wider Embassy.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and timely translation of all incoming and outgoing Arabic and English documents and correspondence.
  • Engage with Arabic speakers to arrange appointments.
  • Attend meetings and workshops to interpret in Arabic and English if required.
  • Undertake general administrative duties, including organising and taking minutes of meetings, logistical support for external meetings, and maintaining administrative processes and records in line with audit and data protection requirements.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to respond to team requirements as they arise.
  • Work with others, including Embassy staff in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, on wider Embassy

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills, with proven ability to manage, plan, and prioritise tasks and workload, and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Results driven with attention to detail, deadlines and outputs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain a range of contacts to build effective working relationships and work closely with senior staff and their contacts.
  • Able to work alone and within a close-knit team environment.
  • Strong IT skills and literacy in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).

  • Previous experience working as a translator.
  • Holds translation qualification / certification (diploma, BA, etc.).
  • Open-source research skills.
  • Previous experience of legal, diplomatic or criminal justice work in the UK, UAE, or Gulf region.
  • Experience of working in an office environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of living and working in the UAE.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, which includes 25 days of leave per annum (calculated pro-rata)

Salary is at AED 7,549 per month.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The Embassy is open from Monday to Friday from 0700 to 1800 hrs.  The Employee’s weekly working hours are twenty-four (24) Monday to Friday (inclusive). This is inclusive of one-hour paid rest break for each five (5) hours worked. The working days and timing of the rest break shall be approved by the Employee’s Line Manager and in accordance with operational requirements.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy’s sponsorship.

Process:

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two – three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidate’s profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.
