Main purpose of job: This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and knowledgeable individual to join the Growth, Prosperity, and Climate (GPC) Team at the British High Commission (BHC) in Kampala. The GPC Team leads on policy and programming related to Uganda’s economic development. The Team manages several Official Development Assistance (ODA) programmes, such as the Climate Smart Jobs programme. The Team engages with the Government of Uganda on policy; for example, the UK provides expert support to Uganda’s Tax Policy Department and has supported the Government to deepen it’s work on renewable energy. The GPC Team also collaborates with the UK’s Department for Business and Trade which supports British Businesses in Uganda. This role will provide maternity leave cover for the Local Economic Advisor in the GPC team. The Local Economic Advisor role works on a wide range of workstreams, from providing regular analysis of the Ugandan economy to leading the BHC’s work on trade policy. They will be required to support with economic appraisal, play an active role in collaboration with BHC partners, and be part of a multi-disciplinary team. The role will report to and work closely with the UK Economic Advisor is the BHC.

The role holder will, however, be working on a wide range of workstreams and engaging with a multi-disciplinary team of BHC staff which will provide many opportunities to learn and develop ‘on the job.
