The British Embassy in Cairo is looking to recruit a Finance Officer under the Corporate Services Section, job grade Administrative Officer (AO).

The jobholder will be part of the Finance team within the British Embassy ensuring the facilitation of the financial operations and activities.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with existing Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office policies and best practice to reduce financial risks.
  • Responsible for cash management including the cashbox, paying any cash requests, receiving cash refunds from staff, and making sure we have enough cash at all times by withdrawing cash from the Bank to replenish the cashbox.
  • Writing the weekly cheques.
  • Keeping the accounts filing system up to date at all times and ensuring good record keeping.
  • Acting as a requisitioner for the corporate services requests and mentor for other colleagues in the Embassy.
  • Receipting and liaising the goods and services delivered and sending the invoices to the FCDO finance hub for processing the final payment. Keeping a proper filing system of invoices on Microsoft Teams.
  • Handling all embassy invoices, especially the regular payments, as the embassy landlines, utilities for the Embassy and UK based staff properties.
  • Monitoring invoices on hold and liaising with the FCDO finance hub to solve any issues.
  • Preparing the social insurance forms for staff joining and leaving the Embassy, as well as the annual return, making sure that all employees are included under the umbrella of the Embassy.
  • Managing a good relationship with the suppliers. Adding new suppliers on the system by preparing the required forms as needed.
  • Completing the end of financial year housekeeping by closing old purchase orders and opening new ones.
  • Preparing the required forms for paying the utilities and other payments.
  • Recording and monitoring the utilities’ consumption for each property, while monitoring the consumption.
  • Being responsible for auditing the first aid boxes and ordering the replenishment.
  • Providing administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the finance team work.
  • Flexibility in taking on other ad hoc tasks and responsibilities as required in supporting the finance manager where needed.
  • Backup for the finance manager during absences.
  • Providing support for other colleagues within the Corporate Services section as needed.
  • Being involves in any post crisis/emergency planning and exercising.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs.

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting.
  • An understanding of the finance processes and procedures.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • IT literate and well versed in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

Eligibility:

Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of USD 948 per month, subject to insurance and tax as per the usual regulations, based on a 36 hours per week. In accordance with the FCDO Policy and agreement with line manager, staff can work flexible hours.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount. 

We offer a competitive package including medical benefits, performance related bonus, recreational facilities, opportunities for job related training and development, etc. There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This role is for a full-time employment, on a fixed term contract basis for one (1) year, subject to three (3) months’ probationary period. The contract may be extended, subject to satisfactory performance and on on-going business requirement.

Process: 

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around 2-3 months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates profile and UK footprint. Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
