The British High Commission is seeking to recruit a General Technician to work within a busy Estates Team. The job holder will be required to carry out day to day maintenance work, routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, breakdown maintenance, new installations and construction works.
The job holder will work across the British High Commission’s Estate, on both sides of the green line. He/She will be expected to understand and work within FCDO Health & Safety Policies.
Role and responsibilities:
• Carry out a variety of planned and reactive building maintenance tasks, which will be varied in nature and will include general building, painting, paving, replacing light bulbs, repairing/replacing locks, plumbing and basic air conditioning and also external works like drainage cleaning, gate and barrier maintenance, curb repairs etc.
• Carry out planned preventative building maintenance in line with set programmes.
• Undertake general facilities support tasks, including furniture building and furniture removals, grounds and site clearance, and keeping areas clean and tidy generally.
• Work individually or as part of a team to complete repair and maintenance tasks.
• Use relevant IT systems to record all work undertaken and related expenditure.
• Adhere to organizational health and safety policy and procedures, identify hazards and undertake point of work risk assessments as required.

- English and Greek language communication skills, both orally and written (minimum of B2 level for CEFR framework*);
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a general maintenance/property maintenance role or as an electrician, plumber, carpenter or general handyman;
- Higher diploma/associate degree or equivalent in relevant disciplines like electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, building;
- Multi-Trade skills qualification(s) or similar certificates of competence;
- Driving license;
- Effective communication skills with the ability to provide clear verbal and written information relative to building maintenance activities.
- Good time management with proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritise work as necessary to deal with multiple and competing demands on a regular basis.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing with staff and customers at all levels.

The gross monthly salary for this position is €1313.50. This is a 12 months fixed-term contract, with possibility to become permanent. Working hours are 38.75 inclusive of 30 min unpaid meal break – 36.25 contracted hours.
The confirmation of appointment is subject to professional background checks and security clearance procedures, as well as the successful completion of a 6 month probation period.
The successful candidate must be free of any convictions and undergo a UK security clearance process.

Staff recruited locally by the British High Commission in Nicosia are subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Republic of Cyprus employment law.
