Why you should apply
During your internship, you will have the chance to work with colleagues across the whole team and become actively involved in a variety of areas and issues through analytical, organisational, communication and administrative tasks. Your primary task will be to help the British Embassy in Berlin to understand and analyse the German Federal Elections in 2025.
You will have a manager to support you throughout your internship and you will gain insights and first-hand experience supporting international work.
In addition to those listed above, you might find yourself:
- Researching policy for a strategy paper or briefing for a Minister or Ambassador;
- Planning and helping to deliver events, receptions and VIP visit programmes;
- Researching and drafting communications e.g. for articles, interviews, speeches and social media.
This internship qualifies as a voluntary or mandatory internship for students, but is also open to graduates or non-students. We are more interested in your motivation for applying to the internship with us and the skills that you bring, rather than your background, work experience or studies to date.
During your internship, you’ll work in the Public Diplomacy & Internal Politics (PDIP) Section. PDIP analyses German domestic politics and hosts events to advance our bilateral relationship. The section also uses Comms to multiply the impact of our work and ensure that we reach the right audiences. As our Germany Elections Intern, you will help us monitor German domestic politics. You’ll do this by researching political figures, analysing polling data and joining us to attend party political functions. You’ll also help to design and deliver creative events that help us get important people in the room.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Undertake research for reports, briefings and other ad-hoc requests;
- Support event management of VIP and Ministerial visits;
- Support the planning and coordination of key meetings and calls with relevant stakeholders, events, webinars, receptions etc. and produce meeting readouts;
- Be involved in other administrative tasks such as stakeholder management and customer relationship management;
- Any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the wider work of the Embassy including crisis work.

- Excellent German and English language skills (both written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
- Strong interest in current affairs, including understanding of German politics and UK-Germany bilateral relationship;
- Keen to work within an international setting and a good team player;
- Drive and enthusiasm, combined with the ability to deliver, working as part of a team;
- Resourcefulness and strong research skills with the ability to act on your own initiative to find creative solutions to problems;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Highly organised, flexible with an excellent eye for detail;
- Happy to engage in a wide range of tasks;
- Confident user of MS Office;
- Social media skills would be useful but are not essential.

Candidates must speak both English and German.
This is an internship of 3 months, full-time 37.5 hours per week. Monday to Friday 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The successful candidate will be subject to academic /professional background check and security clearance.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
