Main Purpose of Job:
This is a varied and interesting role providing support to the Deputy Consul General. The role requires someone who is enthusiastic, able to work independently and as part of a team, on regular tasks as well as specific projects. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, a problem solver and able to demonstrate initiative. They need to be highly organised, and have good interpersonal skills.
This job combines Executive Assistant work for the Deputy Consul General (DCG) and wider support for the policy team. The DCG will look to you to make the best use of their time, to support them to deliver their agenda in an engaging and effective way, and to represent them when interacting with external and internal stakeholders.
This is an excellent opportunity to be part of the British Consulate-General, working closely with the senior leadership team and developing core professional skills including from Executive Assistant work to budget and event management.
The role would suit someone starting out on their career, looking for an internship-like opportunity to learn on the job, or an experienced Executive Assistant.

Our Offer:

There is an element of flexible working available such as early start/late finishes/condensed hours. These would need to be discussed and agreed with line manager. Security considerations however mean we are unable to support the provision of IT for hybrid working. Flexible working arrangements can include part-time, flexitime, job sharing and working compressed hours.
This position is open to Hong Kong permanent residents, those with existing work visas and dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Hong Kong. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Candidates must have or be able to obtain work authorisation for Hong Kong in order to apply.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
The jobholder may be required to travel occasionally, and any travel would be monitored in line with the COVID-19 situation and the Hong Kong travel regulations. Some work (including travel) will be required during the evenings and occasionally weekends, for which time off in lieu (where applicable) will be given.
The start date mentioned in the job advert is a tentative start date and the successful candidate will be required to undergo security vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.
The starting salary mentioned in the job advert is unnegotiable, and there is no additional commission or allowance for this position.
The FCDO also operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.
Learning and Development Opportunities (and any specific training courses to be completed):
This role provides plenty of opportunity to learn and develop and scope to shape the role. You will have the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders and there will be considerable scope for learning on the job as well as opportunities (e.g. attending events, travel). On the job training for project management as used in event planning, and functional financial management will also be provided.
In addition, there are a wide range of opportunities for the incumbent to work with colleagues across the mission on a range of corporate and representational work. There will be opportunity to take part in the Consulate’s job shadowing scheme as well. The Deputy Consul General and the Head of the Chancery Section are committed to helping the job holder design a personal development plan that fits their aspiration and priorities.
The Consulate has an L&D fund which can be applied to in order to support wider development.
