The British Embassy in Israel is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and has an exciting opportunity for a Social Media Manager under the Communications, Press and Media Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and international working environment. The successful candidate will deliver and implement the Embassy’s communications strategy, with an emphasis on social media, by leading the Soft Power file and managing the Embassy’s events and social media presence.

Duties and responsibilities: 

  • Managing the Embassy’s social media. The jobholder will be expected to increase and maintain audience engagement by constantly developing, crafting and writing creative content, while keeping up with global and local digital trends.
  • Supporting the Senior Communications Officer and Head of Communications, and working closely with the Communications Officer, in planning and delivering a digital-first communications strategy, with a particular focus on UK soft power, community outreach, culture and creativity.
  • Support the creative and operational sides of all communication activities, specifically in planning and delivering medium to large scale events and community activities.
  • Help secure high-profile coverage and awareness of Embassy activities and liaise with the Israeli and international media on a wide range of issues relating to UK Government policy with a specific focus on values and soft power.
  • Establish relationships with influencers both in Israel and the UK via social media to create a strong network.
  • Build and maintain a social media calendar of events to highlight, where possible, the UK’s position on a variety of issues.
  • subsequently attending the events in order to capture imagery and video for social media and wider distribution.
  • Help with the creation, maintenance, distribution and content of an internal Embassy newsletter geared towards staff and FCDO employees around the world.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to senior management team on digital and social media opportunities.

Additional tasks as required, including:

  • Monitor the Israeli and international media and write regular press roundups; swift and accurate translation from Hebrew to English and English to Hebrew.
  • Arrange interviews and identify relevant speaking opportunities for Embassy and other UK officials.
  • Draft and issue a variety of communication products including press releases, op-eds, messages, speeches and statements on UK policies and Embassy activities.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK Citizens.

  • Experience managing social media channels professionally (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Proven organisational and administrative skills.
  • A storyteller who can identify relevant data points for a specific audience and incorporate them into the larger narrative.
  • Excellent ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Motivation and enthusiasm to work as part of a small, agile, ambitious team, as well as having the drive and self-sufficiency to work independently.
  • Creativity, flexibility.
  • Excellent IT skills, including the ability to quickly learn new programmes.
  • Comfortable guiding several projects simultaneously from beginning to end.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, energetic, and dynamic environment.

    • Experience in writing speeches, op-eds and other communication products.
    • Proficiency in graphic design platforms and programmes.
    • Proficiency in filming and editing digital content.
    • Experience producing medium to large scale events
    • Experience of press relations and of drafting press products, including press releases/statements and other public messaging.
    • Experience with website management/design or marketing.
    • An overview of UK-Israel relations and awareness of the role of the British Embassy in delivering UK objectives.

    Eligibility:

    If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:

    • Receive the appropriate level of security clearance; and
    • Are able to work legally in Israel.

    Working hours and remuneration:

    The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable salary of ILS 12,190 per month plus transport allowance and social benefits: Pension employer contribution 7.5% and Keren Hishtalmut employer contribution 7.5%.

    No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Parking facilities are not provided nor paid for by the Embassy.

    This position is for a full-time employment, on a permanent contract, subject to a 4-month probationary period.

    Working hours is 37.5 per week. Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30. The role is suitable for a hybrid working pattern, with a minimum of two days per week being worked in the office. Some overtime may be required occasionally.  

    Any flexible working patterns may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.

    Process:

    The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates’ profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.

    Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
