Main purpose of job:

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) works with UK businesses to support UK exports and bilateral investment in Mexico. Headquartered in Mexico City, DBT Mexico works across priority sectors, with regional offices in Guadalajara and Monterrey.

As part of the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) at the Embassy in Mexico City, the main purpose of this position is to support Mexico FDI Team to promote relevant FDI and Venture Capital (VC) opportunities in the UK. Working under the Mexico FDI Head, you will be liaising with key contacts and partners in the UK, Mexico and across Latin America, carrying out business and market research to share commercial intelligence with interested parties, replying to Mexican and Latin American companies enquiries on the UK ecosystem, assisting in the delivery of commercial missions and events, project management of existing  pipeline and lead generation as well as keeping track of administrative tasks. 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Assisting the implementation of the regional Venture Capital strategy and promoting UK VC opportunities for Latin American companies.
  • Supporting senior levels on advising investors and prospecting investors from Mexico & Latin America with market reports, connections, advice and general support on internationalising to the UK.
  • Conducting business and market research as needed.
  • Monitoring the media/ internet for opportunities and bringing relevant information to the attention of colleagues in the UK and other parts of the Mexico team.
  • Following up on enquiries of Mexican and Latin American companies.
  • Attending meetings with relevant sector stakeholders as well as relevant trade fairs and exhibitions (when needed).
  • Assisting in the organisation of activities/events/missions/visits.
  • Preparing sector-focused presentations.
  • Keeping track of and updating databases, CRM system (Data Hub) to ensure our pipeline and engagement activities are up to date.)
  • Performing other administrative tasks as required.
  • Supporting with aftercare and companies’ expansion plans.
  • Contribute to the corporate objectives of the Embassy – Deliver work in line with Embassy Values (Honesty, Professionalism, Inclusion & Respect)

There may be occasional requirement to travel to other locations within and outside Mexico.

  • Ability to research and complete administrative tasks in time and form
  • Translation English-Spanish abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in economics, trade, business administration, finance, statistics or international relations related subjects. Or appropriate business experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English)

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right. 

Language requirements: 

Language: English / Spanish

Level of language required: Excellent verbal and written skills

  • One year of experience working to support international investors or experience in international business.
  • Knowledge of Venture Capital ecosystem in UK, Mexico and Latin America
  • Knowledge of the UK offer to foreign investors.
  • Experience of both the UK and Latin American business environments and cultures.
  • Proficient user of MS Office (especially Excel) and previous experience with CRM.

Working Hours: Full Time 8 hours a week 

The selected candidate will be required to work from Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday from 8:00am to 2:00pm and be available for occasional overtime as required. Expectation is to work under a hybrid model in line with Embassy’s policy (3 days working from the office). Candidate must be based in CDMX.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.  Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’.  If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
