Security Guards

The British Embassy in Tehran has a vacancy for a Security Guard, Grade S2 for a fixed term contract of twelve (12) months with the possibility of renewal.

Security Guards play an important role within the Security Team. They are the first line of defence and play a key role in protecting staff and buildings and provide safety and security.

The jobholder will work as part of an established and capable team to ensure the safety and security of Embassy, staff and families while working in a shift rotation pattern. You must have strong communication skills and proven ability to accurately follow established protocols to carry out a range of security procedures as per Post Security Regulations.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible of controlling, monitoring, and authorising entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons.
  • Ensure that all entrances (gates, doors, and windows) are always protected and ensure controlled access by authorised personnel only.
  • Verify that Embassy visitors are identified, authorised for entry, searched, and registered before entering, and escorted as required.
  • Perform patrolling on foot around the Embassy perimeter checking the safety of fences, walls, and protective barriers.
  • Maintain radio communications with security team members at other posts.
  • Search vehicles before they enter the Embassy for improvised explosive devices or other threats.
  • Immediately report suspect or unusual activities to the Security Team Leader
  • Monitor CCTV images for suspect or unusual activity.
  • Participate in training programs organized for improving the overall security of the Embassy and staff.
  • Be able to operate security equipment (e.g., metal detector arches, X-ray scanner, and personnel scanner). Participate in and support emergency response drills and fire alarm tests.
  • Most be flexible to work in a rotational basis in two compounds.
  • Any Other security related tasks as directed by the line manager or security management.

 

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

Eligibility

Applicants must already reside and hold the right to work and live in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

  • Previous security experience, such as in uniformed services (police, military), commercial security or diplomatic security, or a customer focussed industry background with checkable references.
  • Knowledge of physical security barriers, policy and procedures.
  • organisational skills and flexibility to manage and prioritise tasks within deadlines, with ability to be resilient when facing uncertainty.
  • Willingness to learn about safety and security sectors.
  • Team player who is also capable of working on their own initiative.
  • Proficiency in English and Farsi, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly.
  • Physically fit to carry out duties and maintain this at all times.
  • Strong customer focus in engaging with colleagues, external visitors and contractors.
  • Courtesy and consideration in dealing with staff and other customers. Able to present a professional image of self and the Embassy.
  • Good IT and computer skills. Proficiency in using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • General knowledge of the UK’s safety environment.

  • Experience working in an Embassy or international organisation.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

The salary is USD 1,390 per month (paid into a USD account of a local bank). In addition, the role attracts a shift allowance payable as part of this package. This shift allowance is subject to review and may be altered or withdrawn at any time. 

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This position is full-time, based on 42 hours per week and will involve working on shifts and during weekends and public holidays. The standard shift working hours is from 07:00-19:00 and 19:00-07:00. This may be subject to change based on security-related incidences in country, events, and other operational requirements.

The successful candidate will initially be offered a twelve (12) month contract, with the possibility of renewal.
