Main Purpose of Job:
The British Embassy Jakarta is a large diplomatic mission overseeing a dynamic and rapidly expanding programme of activity to deliver on the UK’s strategic priorities in Indonesia. Increasing bilateral trade and investment is a high priority for the UK and you will work in the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), which is responsible for promoting UK trade and investment across the world, strengthening the rules-based international order, and delivering the UK’s ambitious trade policy agenda. The DBT team is seeking a communications and events manager to proactively lead on the design and delivery of a communications strategy for the entire DBT Indonesia Team.
Trade between the UK and Indonesia is currently worth £3.4 billion, and you will be part of DBT’s mission to build on this. Working to the Head of DBT Corporate Services in Indonesia, you will help achieve this by developing and delivering DBT’s annual media and communications strategy to promote UK trade and investments interests, initiatives, and activities, directly supporting the Department for Business and Trade’s objectives. You will ensure that this plan is tightly embedded in and supportive of the wider Embassy communications strategy and approach.
This comprehensive plan will drive lead generation and highlight trade and investment successes through diverse communication strategies, including media engagements, press briefings, and targeted social media activity. Analysing the Indonesian media landscape and social media trends to provide senior leaders with strategic communications advice for maximising their reach and impact. You will ensure that we tell our story effectively and in an engaging manner, presenting a clear and compelling external narrative on the UK-Indonesia trading relationship.
The DBT communications team works closely with the wider Embassy Media and Comms Team to ensure our messages land with our target audience and measure the outcomes of our communications activity. Collaboratively, you will help deliver a variety of high-profile activities resulting in a wide range of media coverage and generating trade and investment opportunities.
You will also support the trade promotion team to secure new business for UK companies across a wide range of priority sectors such as energy, education, and healthcare. You will support the delivery of key activities within these sectors, including trade missions, inward Ministerial and Senior Official visits, exhibitions and receptions, assisting with logistics and programming to ensure these events deliver results for business and government.
You will lead on crosscutting briefings within the team, provide support around taking meeting notes and records, and ensuring records are kept up to date.

Working Patterns:
Normal working hours are 39.5 (gross) per week: 07:30hrs to 16:00hrs from Monday to Thursday and 07:30hrs to 13:00hrs. The team operates a ‘core hours’ policy of 09:00hrs to 15:00hrs with individual flexibility around that and we are open to requests to work condensed hours, subject to business need.
Some evening and weekend work is required on occasion. Embassy Standard Terms and Conditions apply and provide for time outside of working hours to be compensated through Time-off-in-Lieu. The job may involve some travel, including to the UK, regionally and within Indonesia. A willingness and ability to travel is required.
British Embassy Jakarta supports and promotes flexible working as a crucial part of our inclusive offering and is committed to staff maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The role is suitable for some remote working, and members of the team tend to work from home around 2 days a week (subject to Line Manager’s approval).
No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. All candidates must be legally able to work and reside in the country of the vacancy with the correct visa/work permit status or demonstrate eligibility to obtain the relevant permit.
Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy Jakarta is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local employment law. In relation to this, the successful candidate will need to arrange for his/her own Police Certificate.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
The FCDO also operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.

The Communications and Events Manager will gain a broad range of trade and investment experience which they can use to further progress their career within DBT.
