The British Embassy in Athens is part of a world-wide network, representing a wide range of British interests overseas from political, through Economic, consular and Law Enforcement. The Embassy is now looking for a Legislative Engagement Officer. Main purpose of job: As part of a regional project covering 4 countries, this position will play a key role in the Embassy wide efforts in tackling serious organised crime. The role will entail designing, delivering and evaluating, diplomatic, operational and judicial initiatives to promote legislative change. This will focus on the ability of host countries to seize criminal cash without the need for criminal convictions, taking features of the UK Proceeds of Crime Act as a basis. This role will primarily be to drive the programme of legislative change in Greece but will also cover Bulgaria. While illicit finance and cash smuggling are the focus of this role, the successful candidate may also be asked to help with other related work on law enforcement cooperation that supports the UK’s objectives in countering serious and organised crime.
You will support the cross-embassy team in operational transformation and capacity building around illicit finance and cash smuggling, as part of wider efforts to counter serious and organised crime.

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, fixed term contract until 31.03.2025.
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, 24 days annual leave entitlement (given pro-rata to staff on fixed-term contracts and/or staff working part-time), a training package and flexible working opportunities. Monthly salary for this position is EUR € 3768.76 gross. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate.
This role will be based at the British Embassy Athens with regular travel around the central and southern Europe region, including but not limited to Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and to London.
The successful candidate will be welcomed into the wider team in the British Embassy in Athens and will be encouraged to play a part in the corporate life of the Embassy.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. Anyone with right of residence and employment in Greece may apply, including all EU / EEA citizens and the family members of EU / EEA nationals exercising a treaty right in Greece.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy is subject to terms and conditions service according to Greek employment law. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Greece and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
