Main purpose of job:
The British Embassy in Berlin is a large overseas mission in the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) network. Over 100 colleagues from all walks of life work together to promote the UK and build our connections with Germany. Embedded within a global network, the British Embassy Berlin serves as a key outpost for UK interests. The Estates team at the British Embassy Berlin plays a crucial role in upholding the Embassy’s operations. As part of the Corporate Services department, they manage and maintain over 50 properties across the city. Why you should apply? The vibrant Estates team is looking for a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Officer to contribute to a safe and comfortable residential environment for our staff. The job holder must be a recognised qualified electrician in Germany with work experience in electrical installation and maintenance and have good knowledge of relevant standards and regulations. The primary focus will be tackling diverse electrical challenges across our residential properties and contribute to minor maintenance. Secondary experience to carry out maintenance and repairs such as minor plumbing, carpentry and metalwork is also required. The Estates Maintenance Officer will assist with coordination of the removal and maintenance staff and reports to the Estates Manager.

- Level of language required: Speak English and Germany at least on B1 level whereas one language needs to be on C1 level, according to CEFR framework;
- Recognised qualified electrician in Germany with work experience in electrical installation and maintenance and good knowledge of relevant standards and regulations;
- Experience with minor residential maintenance tasks;
- Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and as part of a team;
- Excellent customer services and time management skills;
- Good communication skills;
- Driver’s license;

This is a full time (40 hours a week), fixed-term position to 24 months, with the possibility of a permanent contract subject to performance and funding. Salary, € 50,124.- rising to a maximum of approx. € 56,304.- gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay (salary is not negotiable).
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
