Main purpose of job:

Nigeria is the most important country for the UK in Africa, a priority country in terms of the Global Middle Ground and home to one of FCDO’s biggest development portfolios. Nigeria is an UK Government Tier 1 country but is grappling with serious challenges which cut across many UK priorities, including climate change, conflict, security and stability, prosperity, and demographics. It will be central to our thinking on Africa for the next 50 years. Nigeria is home to the second largest number of poor people in the world and has the largest economy and population in Africa.

The 500+ staffed UK in Nigeria Mission has an integrated delivery structure of five thematic “blocks” charged with achieving the key outcomes of the Country Plan and NSC Nigeria Strategy. Delivery is supported by five enabling teams. The blocks include several other government department staff from across the Mission, including Department for Business and Trade, Ministry of Defence and the Home Office. The British High Commission has a Deputy High Commission in Lagos as well as a sub-national structure with staff present in six other state-based locations.

The National Crime Agency leads the UK’s fight to cut serious and organised crime, protecting the public by targeting and pursuing those criminals who pose the greatest risk to the UK.

The post holder work as an integral part of the NCA Team in Nigeria by supporting National Crime Agency investigations and intelligence developments.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Develop operational intelligence through the collection, interpretation and evaluation of relevant quantitative and qualitative information sources.
  • Conduct research across a number of platforms, including Open Source and NCA held data in order to analysis intelligence and create intelligence products.
  • Line manage NCA Administration Assistant.
  • Provide oversight of and assist in reconciling and balancing post and individual project budgets.
  • Assist in the planning of capability uplift of law enforcement partners.
  • Maintain various databases and records regarding training, assets, and intelligence.
  • Liaise with external partners to manage, reconcile, and audit budgets.
  • Plan and book travel arrangements for NCA, and external partners.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the NCA International Liaison Officers.

  • SC or able to obtain  SC Vetting
  • Computer literate with Microsoft desktop functions (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Explorer) at a level where you can: create, use and interrogate complex templates, tables, data-sets on FCDO and NCA IT platforms
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • An ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.

  • Previous law enforcement, immigration, military or intelligence analysis experience would be advantageous.

Working patterns:

The role requires the job holder to work flexibly, sometimes starting early or working late

The role necessitates travel for liaison, training, site visits and meetings. Most of this can be done in a day but some overnight stays will be required. There may be some international travel required, within the region or to the UK for liaison, meetings or training.

The role will involve access to and handling of classified or sensitive information therefore, applicant must be able to achieve Security Check (SC) level of security clearance.

Five Eyes nationals (UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and USA) and some European nationals with recent (2 years within the last 5 years) footprint in a Five Eyes/European country will only be considered.
