Main Purpose of Job:
Reporting to the Deputy High Commissioner, the job holder will have oversight of the facilities management and planned and preventative maintenance of the British High Commission office site and High Commissioner’s Residence.
Act as IT Support Officer (ITSO) for the British High Commission (BHC).
What will the Jobholder be Expected to Achieve:
Estates & Maintenance Officer (80%)
- Manage BHC official properties to ensure compliance with Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) standards and policies.
- Oversight of ad hoc and routine preventative maintenance checks including liaison with contractors to ensure schedules are in place and followed.
- Work with the Regional Technical Works Officers and FCDO London based teams on Estates related projects including small and large-scale Projects in line with FCDO guidance.
- Ensure provision of uninterrupted services (water, electricity, phone, internet, to BHC Office and Residence, including through the management of ‘back up’ provision (e.g. diesel for power generation).
- Work with the Post Security/Health and Safety Manager in the implementation of post’s health and safety remedial and preventative maintenance plans.
- Contribute to oversight of the maintenance budget including liaison with suppliers, obtaining quotes, purchases of materials etc.
- Ensure BHC office and Residence Business Continuity and Crisis equipment is in place and regularly checked/serviced.
- Maintain accurate inventories for BHC Office, Residence and IT equipment.
ITSO (20%)
- Proactively maintain and support FCDO desktops, laptops and core infrastructure, undertaking tasks as set out in the IT Support Officer’s induction training.
- Provide a focal point for users’ IT-related queries.
- Provide onsite support to remote service providers in ensuring maximum availability of FCDO systems and services.
- Help to resolve IT problems with support from the IT Help Desk and other IT stakeholders including Senior Technical Service Officers, IT Security Advisors and local suppliers of broadband as well as others.

This role is advertised as a 2-year fixed term renewable contract.

The successful candidate must have or be able to obtain Work Authorisation for Papua New Guinea and valid Police Clearance Certificate. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.
Working Pattern: Full time – 39 hours per week (Monday to Thursday: 0745 – 1615 Friday: 0745 – 1245)
Evening and weekend work will sometimes be required and time off in lieu will be granted.
The FCDO also operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.
