Main Purpose of Job:
The job holder is expected to:
- Support the High Commission by reporting on Papua New Guinea politics.
- Lead on delivery of BHC media and public diplomacy activities.
- Contribute to UK development programme activity in PNG, including deputising for the Political & Programme Officer as necessary.
What will the Jobholder be Expected to Achieve:
Political
- Provide information to the High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner on all aspects of internal and regional politics in Papua New Guinea
- Prepare a monthly political up-date, and additional reporting as tasked
- Develop and deliver successful visits programmes – both for official UK visitors to PNG and for provincial visits by British High Commission staff
Projects
- Work closely with neighbouring Posts in the Pacific Islands Network and external partners on delivery of regional programmes in Papua New Guinea, especially in the areas of health and climate change and environmental protection
- Manage project budgets, due diligence and forecasting
Public Diplomacy and Communications
- Monitor social, digital and traditional media for areas of interest and provide daily summary reports
- Develop, and maintain, network of contacts within the media (TV, radio, newspapers). Draft and issue press releases; ensure high visibility of BHC activity in the media

Language Requirements:
- Fluent English and Tok Pisin

This role is advertised as a 2-year fixed term renewable contract.

The successful candidate must have or be able to obtain Work Authorisation for Papua New Guinea and valid Police Clearance Certificate. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.
Working Pattern: Full time – 39 hours per week (Monday to Thursday: 0745 – 1615 Friday: 0745 – 1245)
Evening and weekend work will sometimes be required and time off in lieu will be granted.
