Main purpose of job: BHC Tanzania is looking for a programme manager to work within the Sustainable Prosperity Team (SPT) to support programmes delivering private sector development and sustainable growth in Tanzania. The successful applicant will be lead programme manager for the team’s flagship private sector development programme (Productivity for Prosperity, £35m over 5 years), ensuring the programme is well executed with robust monitoring and financial management. This programme aims to support sustainable economic transformation in Tanzania through increased labour productivity and climate-resilience in job-creating sectors. The programme has 3 components, covering access to finance for agribusinesses, transaction facilitation in the manufacturing sector, and a flexible demand-driven support facility on business environment, climate finance and high value crops. You will join the team at a point where budgets are confirmed and suppliers are mobilised on P4P, enabling you to focus on delivery. The role will also provide programme management leadership across the team, working with the programme officers to ensure risk management, finances, monitoring and compliance are effective. They will provide supportive line management for one EO Programme Officer and work closely with the two Grade 7 Private Sector Advisors (one of whom will be the line manager). |
Roles and responsibilities This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual who can work at pace across all stages of the programme cycle. The P4P programme has 3 components with different suppliers (delivered through a contract, a centrally managed programme and an accountable grant), meaning the candidate will need to understand working through different delivery mechanisms. The role includes significant programme mobilisation, contract, and financial management responsibilities as well as support to portfolio oversight for the Sustainable Prosperity team. A list of the specific responsibilities is given below; however, the successful applicant will need to be adaptable to new and emerging needs of the team. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work on private sector development at a time when the teams work is scaling up and achieving real impact. It also offers the opportunity to learn about the range of development and diplomacy work in the sustainable prosperity team, including in private sector development, climate change, infrastructure and economic planning. As well as in-house learning there will be the opportunity for formal training and field visits as part of learning and development. The role will include some flexibility to work across the mission on other tasks as part of 10% work, allowing the candidate to develop across a range of areas. |

Learning and development opportunities :
The successful candidate will be supported to access necessary training, including on FCDO systems, as guided by post’s L&D Strategy. The role will also offer the candidate the opportunity to learn about programme management skills and the development work of the mission.
