The British Embassy in Berlin is a large overseas mission in the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) network. Over 100 colleagues from all walks of life work together to promote the UK and build our connections with Germany.

Embedded within a global network, the British Embassy Berlin serves as a key outpost for UK interests. The Estates team at the British Embassy Berlin plays a crucial role in upholding the Embassy’s operations. As part of the Corporate Services department, they manage and maintain over 50 properties across the city. 

Why you should apply?

The vibrant estates team is looking for a skilled and dedicated Removals & Maintenance Team Worker to contribute to a safe and comfortable residential environment for our staff. The job holder should have work experience in furniture assembly, basic maintenance/DIY and gardening. The primary focus will be to contribute to minor maintenance and furnishing tasks.

Roles and responsibilities:

Moving and assembling furniture;

Setting up rooms for meetings and functions, both in the Embassy and Residence;

Purchasing, delivering and setting up white goods and loan items across the Estate;

Purchasing of furniture and other items required for the Estate;

Removal of bulk rubbish;

Basic gardening maintenance at the Residence and vacant houses;

Clearing and cleaning of driveways, footpaths, manhole covers and walls in selected properties;

General maintenance/DIY across the Estate;

Contributing to the wider objectives of the British Government’s Germany network and supporting its positive working environment;

Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required and which are in accordance with the grading and core competencies of the job.

  • Fluency at B1 level in German and English, according to CEFR framework*, or equivalent;

  • Previous professional experience in a similar role

  • Ability to carry out physical work such as carrying heavy items and gardening;

  • Ability to work as a team;

  • Excellent time management skills;

  • Customer focus;

  • Basic IT skills, especially MS Outlook.

  • Clean driving licence (C1);

This is a fixed-term 2 year contract with the possibility of a permanent contract subject to performance and funding, with a salary of €37,668.00 gross per annum rising to approximately €42,312.00 gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay. (Salary is not negotiable)

Our Learning & Development environment: The British Government Germany Network has a strong ethos of Learning & Development, including our Learning & Development Week. This is in addition to the induction programme offered to all staff.

The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.
