Main purpose of the job:

The British Embassy Prague is part of a world-wide network representing British interests overseas while maintaining the relationship between the UK and the Czech Republic.

The British Embassy Prague is now looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Social Media and Public Affairs Officer who will join the Press & Public Affairs team to work on communicating UK policy and our bilateral relations with Czechia, and continually improving the public image of the British Embassy Prague and the Ambassador Matt Field. 

This role combines the responsibilities of digital communication strategy, social media content creation, and public diplomacy. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Head of Press & Public Affairs, ensuring that the Embassy’s digital presence is impactful and engaging, while also providing support for various public diplomacy and PR campaigns.

What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

The Press & Public Affairs team works directly with the Ambassador and provides support for the whole Embassy.

Key roles and responsibilities of the chosen candidate will include:

Digital Communication Strategy:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive digital communication strategies.
  • Oversee and manage social media accounts, ensuring consistent, high-quality content that aligns with the British Embassy Prague goals.
  • Analyse social media metrics to optimize performance and report on key insights.

Content Creation:

  • Create, edit, and publish engaging content across various social media platforms (e.g., X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Develop multimedia content, including videos, graphics, and written posts.
  • Ensure all content is on-brand, culturally relevant, and tailored to our audience.

Public Diplomacy and Media Support:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of public diplomacy projects.
  • Provide support during ministerial visits, including media coordination and content creation.
  • Act as the primary media contact in the absence of the Head of Press & Public Affairs.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Press & Public Affairs and other members of the Embassy.
  • Mentor and supervise a trainee, delegating tasks and providing guidance as needed.
  • Provide expert advice to the Ambassador and Embassy teams on the tailored use of different social media platforms.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders and partners to amplify our messaging.

Essential on arrival:

  • Excellent level of written and spoken English and Czech (both oral and written, minimum C1 level);
  • Over 3 years of proven experience in social media management and creative content creation.
  • Proficiency in multimedia content creation, including video editing and graphic design.
  • Excellent writing and copywriting skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative mindset and a can-do attitude, interest in media and communications work, willingness to learn.

Desirable:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject.
  • Experience in data analysis and evaluation.

This is a full-time fixed-term position for 24 months with possibility of extension by mutual agreement, of 5 working days (37.5 hours net) per week. Working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 17:00pm with a flexible working hours arrangement. Staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked. The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy enjoys an average of 14 Czech/UK public holidays per year.

The monthly salary is 66,990 CZK (gross). In addition, staff receive a meal vouchers contribution.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, medical check, security clearance and 3-months probationary period.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Czech Republic to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Czech Republic are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Czech Republic employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Czech Republic and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.

Start date is an indicative target start date.
