Department for Business and Trade (DBT)

Main purpose of job:

This is an exciting associate position in the Department of Business and Trade (DBT) within the British Embassy in Lima. The primary role of this position is to offer commercial and administrative support to the Department for Business and Trade, operating under and reporting directly to the Healthcare & Life Sciences Manager in the team.

The successful candidate will collaborate with UK exporters and investors, aiming to increase trade and investment activities within the Peruvian market. The successful candidate will also support and develop relationships with British and Peruvian companies, delivering an impactful series of activities focused on highlighting the UK’s expertise various sectors, including in Healthcare & Life Sciences.  In parallel, the successful candidate is also expected to carry out market research, and to provide logistics support for both in-person and virtual events for the team.

Roles and responsibilities 

Contribute towards the Trade and Investment objectives of the team: (90%)

  • Organise and provide logistics support for virtual and in-person events, meetings and trade missions.
  • Update information on the sector (one pagers, databases, calendars, pipelines, and other project-tracking systems).
  • Participate in internal and external meetings to promote the UK offer and provide an overview of the Peruvian market.

Collaborate with different teams: (10%)

  • Engage with colleagues and stakeholders in Peru, the wider LATAC region and the UK to deliver projects and events.

Working patterns:

30 hours per week, from Monday to Friday. The Embassy has core hours during which staff are expected to work from the office, but there is flexibility to enable applicants to complete their studies and it is normally possible to accommodate up to two days remote working per week in coordination with the line manager.

The FCDO operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.

 

  • Proactive team player with strong inter-personal communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong desire to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively, independently and deliver results.
  • Interest in creating and nourishing interpersonal relationships with stakeholders and team members.
  • High-level of competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate programme or recently graduated (e.g. International Relations, Economics, Administration, International Business, Engineering on relevant field, etc.).

  • Experience or knowledge of the Healthcare and Life Sciences landscape in Peru and the UK (or ability to gain knowledge quickly).
  • Experience or knowledge of database management and market research.
  • Experience or knowledge in customer service.
  • Innovative, curious mindset, who’s keen to take on new challenges.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.   
    
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.   

The British Embassy is strongly committed to learning and development (L&D), with a ring-fenced budget for these purposes and all staff are encouraged to set aside time for L&D.  The jobholder will receive training according to the role, have full access to the UK Diplomatic Academy and online training resources and will be encouraged to take full advantage of both formal and informal learning events as and when available and relevant.

The FCDO also has mandatory training that all staff members need to complete.
