For information about Augustana and particular programs, please consult the Faculty webpage at ualberta.ca/augustana.PositionReporting to the Manager Student Life (MSL), the Head Coach is responsible for the operations of the cross country running and indoor track programs.As a premier member of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, and an integral part of the University of Alberta, Vikings Athletics creates a culture of excellence. To that end, we are seeking a highly qualified coach to join our varsity athletics department and lead the running program to success in competition, the classroom and the community.This is a great opportunity to take your running and leadership expertise to a new level.Duties

• Coaching of a varsity team
• Student-athlete development planning and implementation (practice plans, skill development, team culture)
• Plan and implement a team specific integrated support program (strength and conditioning, mental skills, assistant coaches, academic support)
• Team logistics management;
• Team budget/financial management;
• Fundraising and alumni relations;
• Student-athlete recruitment and retention.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health, Sports Administration or related field, and/or running competitive/coaching experience;
• Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills;
• Excellent organizational and communication skills;
• A valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license will be required upon appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in a related discipline;
• Applicable coaching certification or equivalent;
• A successful background in coaching running;
• Demonstrated ability to connect with athletes from youth to the university level;
• Fundraising experience and skills;
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate and develop community partnerships.
