Visitor Experience Officer – Cameron’s Cottage

Cameron’s Cottage is the RSPB’s new residential centre for young people set within the stunning woodlands at RSPB Franchises Lodge in the New Forest, providing activities and experiences that create lasting memories and ignite a lifelong interest in nature. 

We’re looking for a team player with excellent people skills, and a passion for connecting people with nature. Working at Cameron’s Cottage, you’ll be providing a unique and fascinating visitor experience inspiring our visitors to support nature conservation now and in the future. This role is fundamental in ensuring we have the highest quality of visitor experience for both new and existing audiences.

We are looking for someone to support the Learning Officer in contributing to the development, integration and delivery of a high-quality visitor experience at Cameron’s Cottage that maximises support for nature and connects young people with wildlife. Through facilitating residential stays and delivering outdoor activities, you’ll be sparking an interest in the natural world, as well as building confidence and communication skills in the young people that visit.

The ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, proven experience at delivering events or working in an educational setting and a high standard of visitor engagement – if that’s you we’d love to hear from you!

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  •  Computer literate to include professional use of social media to adhere to brand requirements.
  •  Working knowledge of techniques to engage young people.
  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  •  Ability to plan and prioritise workloads.
  •  A team player who can motivate and inspire people.
  •  Problem solving skills and ability to work on own initiative.
  •  Ability to manage and respond to customer needs and feedback.
  •  Ability to maximise opportunities for visitor engagement.
  •  Able to build and maintain strong working relationships.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  •  Ability to analyse and interpret data in a visitor experience environment.
  •  Successful experience of managing or supporting a team of staff and/or volunteers.
  •  Having contributed to a successful visitor project or visitor attraction.
  •  Education related qualification or experience.
  •  Working knowledge of Equal Opportunities and Diversity.
  •  Health & Safety in the workplace.

This is a fixed-term, part-time contract for 6 months from the beginning of May to the end of October 2025 for 22.5 hours per week. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
