The National Bat Monitoring Programme (NBMP) has been running since 1996, making it the longest
running multi-species monitoring programme for mammals in the UK. The NBMP currently produces
statistically robust population trends for 11 of the UK’s 17 breeding bat species. Since 1996,
more than 3,500 volunteers have taken part in our surveys at over 6,800 roost or field sites
around the UK.
We are now looking for a part-time Volunteer Engagement Officer to join our NBMP team on a
six-month fixed-term contract, from April 2025, working 22.5 hours per week across three days.

The Role
As a Volunteer Engagement Officer, you will support our NBMP team in building relationships
with communities, organisations, and volunteers to increase engagement in bat conservation.
Through social media, outreach, and resource development, you will help recruit and support
volunteers, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, ensuring an inclusive and
rewarding experience.
You will also assist in day-to-day administration of the programme, responding to volunteer
queries, managing communication, and contributing to our Bat Monitoring Post e-bulletin.
