Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a permanent position to undertake a key contractual role
in waste management at Buckinghamshire Council. You’ll use your proven track record of
monitoring contracts and operations, ideally supported by knowledge of the waste industry to
help ensure the optimum outcomes and performance of our major waste contracts. Your attention
to detail during regular inspections at waste sites in all weathers will ensure that our Waste
Management service will continue to provide effective and efficient services.
About us
The role sits within the Strategic Waste Management and Enforcement service. The team work
collaboratively to undertake option appraisals, procure new waste service contracts, lead and
deliver waste capital schemes, policy strategy reviews, behaviour change campaigns manage a
number of multi-million-pound waste contracts (e.g. energy from waste, household recycling
centres) and lead and deliver new waste infrastructure projects.
Within the team includes fly tipping, unlawful encampments, and traveller community
enforcement. Collectively the team are involved in a wide range of work from enforcement to
contract management, procurements, communications, internal business / systems improvements,
behaviour change projects and customer service. Working within the wider team means there are
plenty of opportunities for learning and development in both a formal and informal capacity.

About the role
In this role you’ll be working closely with other members of the Waste Contracts side of the
team where you will be required to take undertake a number of day-to-day monitoring activities
such as site inspections and audits. The contracts you will be monitoring include our
high-profile Energy from Waste contract, the customer facing Household Recycling Centre
contract or the Green, Food, Bulky and Wood waste contract. You’ll also take a lead role in
ensuring waste data is collated and reported correctly through the council’s waste data
management system and the Waste Data Flow.
Another key part of the role will be to provide day-to-day support to apprentices in the waste
team as they learn about waste management in a local authority environment.

Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders
and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will
be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team
requirements.
About you
Educated to NVQ level 4/HND/BTEC standard or equivalent, you’ll be able to demonstrate a proven
track record of working with contracts, partnership working, managing and presenting
information effectively, and working within time constraints.
Knowledge and understanding of key waste management legislation and national policies will be
an advantage, though more importantly you will be an excellent communicator and be able to
identify and analyse issues and offer practical solutions.
Please note that access to your own vehicle is an essential requirement for the role as there
will be a need to travel across the county to various sites.
