Wildlife Officer (National Landscape)

Fixed term up to 2 years
Part time 30 hours per week

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity to join a small but dedicated team of individuals working to
conserve and protect the special landscape qualities of East Devon National Landscape (EDNL)
throughout the district. The team works across a wide range of areas, developing and delivering
projects that support communities, nature, climate, access, diversity and inclusion, and the
role provides an excellent opportunity for growth and professional development.

Building on the work of our Elusive 8, you will research and identify nature priorities for
EDNL’s new 5-year Partnership Plan (2025-2030), developing species action plans for each of the
priorities. Those priorities could be species assemblages, habitats and/or keystone species
found within the National Landscape.

You will work in partnership with our strong network of collaborators, leading on the design,
development and delivery of nature recovery projects that enhance the conservation, protection
and awareness of EDNL nature priorities.

About you

With demonstratable experience communicating and working in partnership with external
organisations to deliver shared outcomes, you will have a strong working knowledge of ecology,
UK habitats and nature conservation practices and ideally specific knowledge of species and
habitats found in East Devon and the wider Devon area.

Self-driven and proactive, your track record of developing and delivering nature conservation
projects and events, whether in a leading or supporting role will underpin your ability to
evidence clear actions taken to restore UK wildlife, as well as clear outcomes from monitoring
and evaluation.

Experience supervising volunteers and contractors would be an advantage. A valid driving
license to facilitate travel throughout the district is essential (reasonable adjustments may
be possible in accordance with the Equality Act).

About us

Our recent Local Government Association Peer Challenge highlighted that ‘EDDC is a great place
to work, with engaged staff and members’ and that’s certainly true! You will be part of a Gold
Investors in People (IiP) organisation which works together with local people to create great
value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment in which people want to
live, work, visit and enjoy now, and for future generations. And with our wide range of health
and wellbeing benefits, our highly flexible and collaborative hybrid Worksmart working
arrangements as well as our commitment to continuous learning and development, you can be
confident of joining a dedicated community of colleagues who are Happy, Healthy and Here.
