WRI : Communications Specialist, Global Energy – The Hague

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days/month in the office. You can be based in our office in Washington D.C., London or The Hague. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position. To be eligible for this position in US, you must be a resident of DC, Maryland or Virginia at the start of employment.

Job Highlight:

 

Reporting to Energy Program’s Communications Lead, you will integrate equity into your work. You will work to build awareness of and support for our work as a leader in the global clean energy transition. Broadly, you will work with WRI Energy’s communications team and program staff to build a strategy around social media, email and digital marketing, develop communications campaigns and track results. You will liaise with other staff in our country offices and program staff around the globe to amplify local and regional work to international stories through our digital and social communications channels. You will also conceive of ideas for new campaigns and articles based on what you are hearing from our country and program staff. In addition to developing and implementing communications strategy on all our digital channels, you will be responsible to creating assets, which could include articles, social media kits, web content, email newsletters, PowerPoint slide decks, promotional copy for webinars, workshops and events, video scripts and other collateral.

You will be supported by the Energy Program’s Global Communications Lead, as well as communications staff throughout the Energy Program’s global network (U.S., Africa, India, Europe, Mexico, Indonesia, and China), Energy Program staff and WRI’s core communications team.

 

What will you do:

 

Content Development (30%): –

 

  • You will assist with the creation of communications content, which could include editorial, design, or project management support for assets including PowerPoint slide decks, web content, social media kits, blog articles, reports, graphics, and videos
  • In some cases, you will have to serve as a project manager for content that is collaboratively developed across several projects or offices

 

Social Media (20%): –

 

  • You will develop and execute a social media strategy for the Global Energy Program informed by methodical analytics and latest best practices, including posting original content and being active in following and engaging with relevant accounts
  • You will manage Energy’s LinkedIn and X accounts
  • You will draft social posts, develop social media kits, and create Canva graphics, and distribute them on our social channels as well as share them with WRI colleagues for cross-promotion

 

Email and Digital Marketing (15%): –

 

  • You will draft, edit and send mass email campaigns and recurring newsletters promoting the Energy team’s events, research and overall messaging
  • You will oversee email lists and audience research, including helping organize and maintain WRI Energy’s contact database

 

Measurement and Evaluation (15% time): –

 

  • You will be in charge of a quarterly evaluation of our communications and engagement activities, collecting KPIs and formatting a quarterly report, including insights on how we’ve performed and recommendations on what we might want to continue or improve

 

Webinars and Events (20%):-

 

  • You will support promotion, production and logistical support for webinars (1-2 per month on average, but frequency varies)
  • You will occasionally provide logistical and A/V support for in-person and hybrid events

 

What will you need:

 

  • Education: You have a completed a bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing or related fields. Relevant work experience in lieu of degree is accepted
  • Experience: You have a minimum of 3 years of full-time relevant experience in digital marketing, science communications or related fields
  • Professional experience with social media platforms like X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Mailchimp, Salesforce, Canva, Emplifi, Google Analytics, Drupal, MS Teams, Zoom a plus. Video production and design experience a plus
  • Languages: Fluent in English
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

 

Potential Salary: US salary range is between 69K and 78K USD. UK: 38K – 47 K GBP; NL: 49K – 61K EUR. If located in another country office, salary will be determined by local market conditions. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
