We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable assistant environmental educator to join our team, specializing in outdoor activities in and around wild places in the Edinburgh area. The primary responsibilities of the role are to assist the senior environmental educator with after-school wildlife clubs, fostering a love for nature and the outdoors in young learners, and potentially assist in our outdoor teaching sessions and our grounds/conservation projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior Environmental Educator in delivering engaging after-school wildlife club programs.
  • Assist with additional programs, including weekend birthday parties, holiday clubs, and groundswork activities.
  • Provide support to individual children throughout all programming activities.
  • Help supervise, engage, and positively manage groups of children during sessions.
  • Encourage enthusiasm and participation in educational activities, games, and outdoor learning experiences.
  • Occasionally supervise the group independently if the lead educator is responding to an emergency or first aid situation.

Qualifications/experience:

  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in an outdoor/wild setting.
  • Prior experience working in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire young learners.
  • Ability to work under the leadership of a senior environmental educator.
  • Ability to work outside in a wide range of weather conditions.

Pay & Hours:

  • £13.25 per hour.
  • 10-15 hours per week.
  • Core hours for the after-school clubs are Monday-Thursday 3:30-5:30 & Friday 1:00:3:00. We require availability for one to two weekend days a month to help with our bush craft birthday parties (double pay). There are also opportunity to assist with our in-school teaching sessions.
