Assistant Reserve Warden

About The Role

Join our team at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre and help protect wildlife, care for habitats, and inspire visitors.

You’ll support day-to-day reserve management, including habitat work, infrastructure maintenance, wildlife surveys, livestock checks, and volunteer supervision. You’ll also engage with visitors through guided walks and events, helping bring our wetlands to life.

This is a hands-on, outdoor role where you’ll make a real difference for nature, people, and climate – while building valuable conservation and leadership skills.

Why apply?

  • Work in a stunning wetland environment
  • Gain practical conservation experience
  • Support wildlife and local communities
  • Be part of WWT’s mission to restore wetlands and unlock their power

Working Arrangements

This is an annualised hours contract based on an average of 30 hours per week.

This position will require work at weekends and some bank holidays.

This is a site-based, hands-on role at WWT Llanelli and is not suitable for hybrid working. Regular outdoor and on-site presence is essential.

A full UK driving licence is required. Travel to other WWT sites will be occasional.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in nature conservation or land management, including use of machinery and power tools
  • Practical experience of habitat management (e.g. hedging, coppicing, conservation grazing)
  • Good bird identification skills and broad knowledge of British wildlife
  • Experience of carrying out ecology surveys
  • Confidence engaging with the general public in a positive, professional way
  • Experience supervising or supporting volunteers
  • Ability to work safely, following health & safety procedures
  • Full UK driving licence and GCSE-level education (or equivalent)

Whatever you do here, you’ll be helping to restore wetlands and unlock their power. So, the only question left is, what role will you play?

Why you’ll love working at WWT

  • Wake up every day knowing your work is helping to restore wetlands, and our world
  • Be surrounded and inspired by our team of passionate, dedicated people
