Time commitment: Approximately 2 days per week (15 hours) on average

About BetterPoints
BetterPoints specialises in delivering behaviour change programmes that support more active and sustainable lifestyles. Working across transport, public health, and environment, we partner with local authorities, educational institutions and private sector organisations to encourage people to walk, wheel, run, cycle and use public transport through our rewards app.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly energetic proactive, results-led and well-organised Engagement Coordinator who is comfortable walking up to five to eight miles per day to support delivery of the BetterPoints programme in Oxfordshire.
This role focuses on face-to-face engagement with local stakeholders, delivering events, and promoting the BetterPoints Oxfordshire programme in general to encourage people to travel more actively and sustainably. You will work closely with the BetterPoints Programme Manager and Oxfordshire County Council to increase participation and maximise impact.
This is a flexible freelance opportunity suited to someone who is confident working independently and adept at building strong local relationships.
Context
BetterPoints is working with Oxfordshire County Council to reduce single-occupancy car journeys and promote sustainable travel and physical activity.
Residents, workers, and students in Oxfordshire can download the free BetterPoints app to earn rewards for walking, wheeling, running, cycling, and using public transport. The programme combines incentives and communications to drive long-term behaviour change.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders, including retailers, charities, strategic employers, public sector organisations, and community groups
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver engagement activities, including workplace events and attendance at local public events e.g. festivals, community events
- Proactively support recruitment of organisations and individuals to the programme, working towards agreed targets
- Develop a deep understanding of the BetterPoints product and its use.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- An excellent in-person communicator, with strong verbal and written skills
- Strong in-person negotiation, persuasion, and influencing skills
- Perseverance, persistence, and emotional resilience
- Friendly, approachable, and confident engaging a wide range of audiences
- Target-led, highly organised, self-motivated, and able to manage their own workload
- Flexible and adaptable to changing objectives
- Familiar with the Oxfordshire area and has relevant local connections
- Passionate about sustainability, active travel, and public health – experience in these fields desirable but not essential as full training will be provided
- Able to learn complex information quickly, then explain it simply
- Experienced in engagement, community outreach and events
- B2B (Business-to-Business) sales and cold-calling experience desirable
- Comfortable walking up to 5 to 8 miles per day across various terrains and indoor facilities.
