Construction Officer, NOB/FT, Bujumbura, Burundi #127676

The Construction Officer reports to the Programme Manager (Infrastructure) as per the Country Office (CO) set-up and is responsible for providing technical support to construction activities of the country office. The technical support on construction projects includes planning, support to procurement, as well as monitoring of construction works on site. The incumbent collaborates closely with UNICEF Programme/ Operations in defining construction interventions to meet programmatic needs and achieve results for children.

In Burundi, UNICEF has a very diverse portfolio of responsibilities but all with the same objective which is to assist the Government and other stakeholders to fulfill children’s economic, social, cultural, political, and civil rights. The UNICEF country program in Burundi aims to improve the lives of children and women in the following key areas: Child and maternal health, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, Water, sanitation and hygiene, Social Policy and Advocacy, Adolescent empowerment and community resilience, and Humanitarian response. 

How can you make a difference? 

Under the supervision of the Programme Manager (Infrastructure) as per the Country Office (CO), the incumbent set-up and is responsible for providing technical support to construction activities of the country office. The technical support on construction projects includes planning, support to procurement, as well as monitoring of construction works on site. The incumbent collaborates closely with UNICEF Programme/ Operations in defining construction interventions to meet programmatic needs and achieve results for children with the following Key functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks: 

  • Preparation of construction annual workplan
  • Collaboration with UNICEF Programmes/Operations and coordination with Government counterparts
  • Preparation of design and technical documents
  • Support to procurement process
  • Monitoring of construction projects

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: A university degree is required in in civil engineering, construction engineering, architecture or other relevant area.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience, at the national and/or international levels, in project monitoring, site supervision, quality assurance and/or other directly related technical fields is required.
  • Understanding of development and humanitarian work.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in French & working knowledge of English is required

Desirables:

  • Emergency experience an advantage.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
