Applications are invited for a mixture of replacement appointments following expansion of our services and the retirement of existing consultants. The post is for a General Consultant Anaesthetist where special interests in most major sub interests of anaesthesia can usually be accommodated.A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. The Trust operates job share and flexible working.Main duties of the jobThe appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals. The appointee will take his/her share of clinical responsibilities within the Department of anaesthesia. This will include provision for peri-operative assessment clinics where required.In addition to duties within subspeciality, the appointee will be required to provide anaesthesia for adult patients in all specialties as appropriate to his/her training and experience.There is an on-call commitment of approximately 1:20, providing cover for the emergency on call work. A separate consultant on-call rota exists for paediatric anaesthesia, weekend and bank holiday day trauma theatres, intensive care medicine and obstetric anaesthesia.All postholders, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance program. • FRCA or equivalent.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthesia or eligible for entry within 6 months of the date of interview
• Higher Training in Anaesthesia specialities or equivalent experience
• Higher Training in Perioperative Medicine or equivalent experience.
• ATLS Provider

Desirable

• MD, PhD or other postgraduate qualification (PGCert, PGDip, MSc)
• ATLS instructor or equivalent

AptitudesEssential

• Good communicator.
• Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Enthusiasm for service development and teaching
• Prepared to work in shared office space.

ExperienceEssential

• Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty

Desirable

• An interest in the management of patients with complex trauma.
• Post CCT experience in Anaesthesia.
