We are looking to appoint to a Whole-Time (10 PA) Consultant in Spinal Injuries Rehabilitation to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust based at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre, Northern General Hospital.We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.Main duties of the jobThe appointee will be responsible for the provision of acute management and long-term follow-up of patients admitted to the Centre. They will share equitable responsibilities with his professional colleagues and will actively contribute to the governance arrangements of the Department.The appointee will be expected to conduct multi-disciplinary ward rounds, goal planning and to see out-patients. • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
• Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.
• If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
• Substantial experience in Rehabilitation Medicine preferably with spinal injuries as a major component, or equivalent

Desirable

• MD or PhD or equivalent
• Experience in procedural skills and management of acute spinal cord injury.

Clinical experienceEssential

• Ability to work as an independent practitioner in spinal injuries.
• Capable of providing comprehensive care to acutely injured patient with spinal cord injury

Desirable

• Possess broad clinical experience in the field of specialised rehabilitation
• Expertise in managing pressure sores and spasticity
• Experience of working in trauma settings/ with spinal surgical teams managing acute spinal cord injury

ResearchEssential

• Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

• Publications in Peer reviewed journals; GCP training.

• Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels
