Who are we?
The British Consulate General in Istanbul is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Corporate Support Officer.
What is the role about?
The Corporate Services Team provides support to staff from around 12 UK Government departments across the Türkiye network (Ankara, Istanbul and five coastal posts).
The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of administrative support, private office support, HR support, and creative communications to contribute to the general effective management of the British Consulate General and Türkiye Network.

How will you succeed in this role?
- Internal Communications
Planning and issuing internal communications across the Türkiye Network (The Embassy in Ankara, the Consulate General in Istanbul and the coastal posts in Izmir, Antalya, Marmaris, Fethiye and Bodrum), drawing up forward plans based on the corporate calendar and Board timings, as well as any other important announcements, and arrange events for the senior leadership e.g. all-staff meetings, focus groups, consultations. Translations – Providing consecutive interpreting and other forms of verbal interpreting as well as written translations of documents, announcements. etc. - PA to the Deputy Consul General / Occasional Cover for the PA to the HMCG
Providing professional administrative support e.g. diary management, booking meetings and travel and assisting with budget management to the Deputy Consul General, and provide cover for the PA to the Consul General. - Admin Support to Türkiye Network Governance Bodies
Secretariat duties for several Network Boards which are corporate decision making fora. These duties include: planning and arranging Board meetings, taking and circulating the record of meetings, translation of meeting minutes and following up on actions with the individuals responsible to ensure that they are completed. You will be expected to plan ahead while remaining flexible to last minute changes. Other structures may require admin support as our governance structures evolve - Admin Support as determined by the Deputy Consul General and Corporate Services Manager on priority issues e.g. events and VIP visits
Collaborating with different teams for the delivery of various events and occasionally arranging visit programmes and logistics for incoming VIP and other visitors to Istanbul. Providing consecutive translations in official meetings.
Given workload priorities, other tasks are likely to be assigned, including HR support during the first year of employment.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Our ideal candidate shows:
- Fluent in English and Turkish C1 including excellent written and spoken skills (under the Common European Framework of References for Languages*).
- Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Economics, or a related field.
- Previous administrative experience in an office environment.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Teams, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other tools for creating documents, visuals, and presentations (e.g. as a plus, Adobe Pro, Canva, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication with a strong customer focus.
- Ability to work with senior management and contacts and colleagues at all levels.
- Personal drive and the ability to be a self-starter as well as a team player.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with good attention to detail.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Nice to have:
- Previous interpreting experience (including translation).
- Previous Personal Assistant / Executive Assistant experience.
- Previous Corporate / Internal Communications experience.

This is a full-time, permanent contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net), per week.
The monthly salary for this position is $2,311 USD gross, paid in 12 instalments, AO level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.
All applicants should have the right to live and work in Türkiye. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General in Istanbul are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Turkish employment law.
