Are you passionate about the outdoors? Would you love the chance to work in a wonderful urban
oasis in south London? We’ve got an exciting opportunity for a Garden & Outdoors Manager to
join our lively team. You’ll manage a small team and an amazing group of volunteers primarily
at Morden Hall Park, with regular visits to other sites in the Morden Portfolio.

The advertised salary is inclusive of the Outer London Weighting allowance of £3,003
per annum.

What it’s like to work here

Morden Hall Park is a beautiful wildlife haven in south London. It has a historic rose garden and
a range of habitats – woodland, meadows, and wetlands. We are also lucky to have a rare chalk
stream meandering through the site. We have a footfall of over one million visitors a year.

As an urban portfolio, Morden Hall Park and the smaller properties are perfectly situated to
deliver the National Trust’s Everyone Welcome strategic priority. There is a great culture of
helpfulness and support across the whole property, which includes our onsite Garden Centre, the
largest retail outlet within NT.

As a member of the Portfolio Leadership Team, you’ll line manage three staff and contribute to
the general smooth running of the portfolio. You will report directly to the General Manager
and take your turn as duty manager.

Weekend working will be required on a regular basis, including Bank Holidays. Regular travel to
other properties within London will be required.

What you’ll be doing

Day to day, you’ll review, develop and deliver seasonal tasks related to various management and
habitat plans. You’ll develop relationships with external partners, such as the Environment
Agency and seek opportunities for funding from external sources. You’ll support other teams
within the property with various events. You’ll be working in an urban environment with large
numbers of visitors in the summer months, so you’ll need have a positive attitude even under

Who we’re looking for

  • Relevant land and access management knowledge
  • Leadership skills including good communication, setting a vision, and coaching
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Financial and budgetary experience and running small projects.
  • Strong judgement and problem solving skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong IT skills
