We are looking to appoint a Whole time General Surgery consultant with a special interest in Colorectal Surgery to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Based at the Northern General Hospital.We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.Main duties of the jobThe appointee will, together with consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of General Surgical and Colorectal practice to enable the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust to fulfil its service agreements with Sheffield Health and other commissioners. Ideally the appointee will have a specialist interest in Pelvic Floor Surgery but may be expected to assist in the delivery of the Colorectal MDT or benign resections including Endometriosis.Full details of the duties of the post can be found in the Job Description.About usLocated on rolling hills and dissected by river valleys, Sheffield is one if the greenest and most wooded cities in Europe.   • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible on date of the interview.
  • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Postgraduate professional qualifications as appropriate to post FRCS General Surgery

  • MD or PhD or equivalent

Clinical experienceEssential

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in general surgery.
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Colorectal (Benign and Cancer)

Desirable

  • Consultant level experience in general/colorectal
  • Experience in inflammatory Bowel Disease surgery
  • Experience in Abdominal Wall Reconstruction

ResearchEssential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

Teaching and trainingEssential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

CPDEssential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

  • Evidence of ability to work with management and previous experience of management groups.

Clinical governance and auditEssential
