Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Career and Employment, the incumbent is responsible for initiating and building strong student and business relationships with various organizations while creating effective recruitment opportunities which have a positive impact on the employment rate of Telfer students and alumni.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Plans and initiates pro-active strategies and programs in order to build privileged alliances with local, national and international employers. Acts as an ambassador of the Telfer School of Management of the University of Ottawa with business leaders in order to promote the public image of the School and to support the job recruiting of its students and alumnae.
  • Explores and develops networking strategies with employer groups (e.g. Ottawa Board of Trade, Invest Ottawa etc.) in order to locate openings for our students and our alumni.
  • Regularly communicates with employer partners to understand their specific recruitment needs and craft effective recruitment strategies to support their hiring efforts.
  • Continually analyzes the employment market, researching current work and hiring trends, as well as identifying new and developing job markets.
  • Plans and launches pro-active initiatives in order to build strong relationships with the Telfer School of Management students. Ensures open communication lines with students to provide relevant career development advice and to keep abreast of students’ ever-changing needs and expectations. Advises students regarding their career path and the employment opportunities available for each program offered at the Telfer School of Management.
  • Participates in the development and overall planning of the Telfer School of Management undergraduate Career Development Program and the Career Management Program for the MBA candidates. Designs and conducts workshops dealing with networking skills, employment trends and on other subjects related to the career development of Telfer students to ensure that all students possess the self-understanding and necessary tools to establish a meaningful career. Further develops and expands the existing internship programs with the public and private sector.
  • Participates in the design and enforcement of the standards of posting for positions, complying with the Standards of ethics regarding recruitment as defined by the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employees (ACSEE-CACEE). Represents the Telfer School of Management during conferences related to career development.

What you will bring

  • University degree, preferably in business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years experience in business administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent knowledge of public and private sector organizations, employment practices, trends for the future, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Knowledge and experience in generating new business and establish strong client relationships in the various business sectors that lead to an enhancement of career opportunities for students.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategies.
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Demonstrated ability in being flexible and to be able to adapt to ever-changing client needs.
  • Demonstrated maturity, good judgment, creativity, confidence and poise.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Good problem-solving skills, ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel. Have a valid driver’s license.
  • Schedule flexibility that will allow the employee to participate in different events during the evenings and weekends.
  • Bilingualism (spoken and written)
