National Landscape Project Officer

Somerset Council

We’re working to conserve the unique landscape of the Quantock Hills National Landscape and
support the lives of farmers and the communities of the Quantock Hills. This is delivered by
working with our partners, particularly farmers and land managers, providing discretionary
funding and advice for a wide range of innovative projects. These projects target the four core
themes of our work – Nature, People, Landscape and Heritage – and you’ll be a key part of that
work involving:

  • Promoting and managing the delivery of the Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) grant
programme (and other projects) for the Quantock Hills National Landscape.
  • To visit, advise and support applicants with their project ideas and the application
    process.
  • Monitor and support the delivery of projects within agreed costing and timescales.
  • Work with the National Landscape team to contribute to our other collaborative work across
    the Quantock Hills.
  • Work closely with the team to develop new ways to engage with the farming and land
management communities to raise awareness of the support they can provide.

We are keen to hear from a wide range of candidates and it will really help if you have:

  • Experience working with farmers and land managers to deliver conservation objectives.
  • Knowledge of current issues in farming, agricultural policy, and agri-environment schemes.
  • Knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation issues and opportunities in farming.
  • Practical experience of habitat and landscape conservation.
  • Experience of project development and management, including budget management, monitoring,
    and reporting.
  • Experience delivering grants.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience engaging stakeholders and facilitating
    collaborative projects.
  • Strong IT skills, including with Microsoft Office and GIS software.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich our team.
