Job Description:Grade UE07: £40,497- £48,149 per annum, pro-rata if part-timeCSE/Institute for Astronomy (IfA)Full-time: 35 hours per weekFixed-term: for 2 yearsWe seek applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Institute for Astronomy (IfA) at the University of Edinburgh, working with Prof. Ross McLure to carry out research into galaxy evolution.The Opportunity:The research goal of this position is to advance our understanding of galaxy evolution in general, with a particular focus on studying galaxy evolution within the epoch of reionization. The successful candidate will work together with Prof. McLure on a variety of projects in this area, depending on their experience and research interests. They will have the opportunity to engage in research that exploits the JWST PRIMER and EXCELS surveys and the ground-based MOONS MOONRISE and VANDELS surveys, as well as to lead further independent research projects.This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.This post is fixed term for 2 years with a start date ideally between 1st September and 1st March 2026.The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce, and eliminating discrimination.The School strives to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace for all and we are looking to actively diversify our staff. It is one of the UK’s major centres of astronomical research, with special strengths in survey astronomy, cosmology, active galaxies and the formation of stars and planets.The IfA runs introductory courses in astronomy for students of any discipline at first year level, Honours Degree courses in Astrophysics (both BSc and MPhys), and research degrees leading to the award of PhD in astronomy.
