Postdoctoral Research Associate
University of Edinburgh
Job Description:UE07 – £39,347 – £46,974School of Biological SciencesInstitute of Quantitative Biology, Biochemistry and BiotechnologyFull Time 35 hours per weekFixed Term – 1st July 2024- 30th June 2025We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented postdoctoral researcher with an interest in chromatin biology to work on characterising interactions between non-canonical EZH2 and its protein binding partners in a disease context. This is a collaborative project between University of Edinburgh, Babraham Institute (Cambridge) and Boehringer Ingelheim (Germany). The Opportunity:An exciting opportunity has arisen to identify and characterise binding partners of non-canonical EZH2 in the context of fibrosis. EZH2 is a component of the polycomb repressor complex 2 (PRC2) that contributes to repression of gene expression. However, in certain contexts, phosphorylated EZH2 can be released from PRC2 and can activate transcription. Recent work by Boehringer Ingelheim and colleagues demonstrated that a non-canonical form of EZH2 mediates activation of fibrotic genes by acting as a transcriptional activator (Le et al. (2021) EMBO Rep 22, e52785). In collaboration with Philipp Voigt at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge and researchers at Boehringer Ingelheim, we will identify binding partners of non-canonical EZH2. The postholder will be responsible for biochemical and structural characterisation of protein-protein interactions between EZH2 and its novel partners.Your skills and attributes for success:
