The position will support a programme of applied and fundamental low-energy nuclear physics, funded under a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship award. The fundamental programme of work will employ Coulomb-excitation and transfer reactions, making use of high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometers and their associated ancillary devices.The position will involve work with stable and radioactive rare isotope beams at laboratories including the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) and Argonne National Laboratory. The candidate will also be involved in applied nuclear physics, such as the development of novel-detector technologies for energy and security, and the measurement of decay properties for nuclear medicine.The groupThe Experimental Nuclear Physics group at the University of Surrey undertakes research including fundamental theoretical and experimental nuclear physics, radiation physics and applications. The PDRA will join an established group studying nuclear structure phenomena, reactions pertinent to astrophysical scenarios, and applications of radiation detection and nuclear physics.
