Practical Conservation Officer

Main purpose of role

The Practical Conservation Officer’s primary role is to enthusiastically and competently lead our volunteers on practical conservation workdays at sites across Eryri National Park, year-round, come rain or shine!

These volunteering days benefit both the natural environment and volunteer wellbeing, and contribute towards funded project output targets and the strategic aims of Cymdeithas Eryri.

Job description

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead groups of volunteers on a wide range of practical, outdoor workdays in a safe and confident manner, liaising with staff from our partner organisations and dynamically risk assessing conditions
  • Promote volunteering and knowledge sharing of the environmental conservation of Eryri National Park during volunteer work days, enthusing and empowering them to engage with us outdoors year-round and in a range of conditions
  • Work with the Conservation team under direction of the Conservation Manager to facilitate and deliver a varied volunteering programme in line with the Society’s action plan and strategy,
  • Record output metrics and feedback from completed workdays, which will inform project reporting
  • Organise and maintain the tool and supply storeroom in a methodical and safety-conscious manner
  • Support the Volunteers Officer when needed with the day-to-day administration of the volunteer database, volunteer communications, and digital advertisements
  • Contribute to development of new training units and resources, organise and lead training sessions, and carry out assessments as an Agored assessor

All Cymdeithas Eryri employees are expected to:

  • Liaise with other Society staff to ensure smooth running of the Society’s activities
  • Input to monitoring and evaluation of the Society’s work

  • Advocate for and promote the use of the Welsh language as one of the nine special qualities of Eryri, including encouraging other colleagues to develop their own skills
  • Always adhere to the Society’s policies and procedures, including (but not limited to) those covering equality, diversity and inclusion; sickness and absence; health and safety; safeguarding; and GDPR
  • Engage in a process of continual professional development
  • Use their own vehicle for work purposes as and when required
