Position: Project Coordinator
Location: Remote (based and able to work within Eastern Africa Time (EAT) or Central European Time (CET) time zone)
Employment Type: 0.8 FTE (32 hours per week)
Gross salary range: A gross salary of 2800 – 3200 EUR per month for 0.8FTE.
Contract: Initial 1-year contract with the intention to extend
Start Date: As soon as possible

About the role and project:

The Model National Response (MNR) framework acknowledges the integral role of child helplines in the fight against OCSEA. Child helplines are ideally positioned to support and respond to the needs of children and young people, wherever they are and whenever they need it. Every child has the right to be heard.

To address this problem, Child Helpline International (CHI) has developed a 2-year project in partnership with seven of its member child helplines in the Eastern and Southern Africa region, funded by Safe Online. By upgrading infrastructure, training, raising awareness, fostering partnerships and conducting research, we strive to enhance child helpline accessibility and service quality, and elevate community awareness.

As the Project Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in addressing the pressing issue of Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA) and the role of child helplines.

The project includes activities such as needs assessments, in-person learning exchanges, Training of Trainers, the development of Standard Operating Procedures, online Community of Practice, awareness-raising campaigns and a feasibility study on the partnership opportunities between online platforms and child helplines to combat OCSEA.

You will lead the coordination of the project. You will also have a leading role in the implementation of activities, with ongoing support from other team members, including the People & Operations Officer, the Learning Coordinator, Data and Research Manager and Program Manager.

Your responsibilities as Project Coordinator include:

  • Coordinating the design and implementation of project activities, according to the established project plan, with support from relevant team members.
  • Coordinate logistics for organizing workshops, with the support of People & Operations Officer and / or individual child helplines, where relevant.
  • Leading on measuring project progress according to results framework and indicators. This includes identifying and addressing any project risks and issues, providing solutions, where applicable.
  • Oversee and monitor project expenditure, ensuring budget compliance, timely and high-quality report submission, adherence to frameworks, and maintenance of project documentation and plans with support from Operations.
  • Facilitating effective communication with the project donor, relevant partners and child helplines as key stakeholders.
  • Representing the organization and the project at some relevant events and fora.
  • Handling general administration and relevant ad hoc tasks.
  • Take the lead on other OCSEA-related tasks within the organisation, that may fall outside of the scope of this specific project.

Candidate Profile:

Required:

  • Progressive experience in relevant NGO roles.
  • Knowledge about child rights, including child rights in the digital sphere.
  • Expertise in project management, including strategic planning, budgeting, and project cycle management.
  • Strong analytical skills for project assessment and evaluation.
  • Excellent communication abilities for presentations and community engagement.
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience in diverse settings.
  • Effective task prioritization and stress management skills.
  • Proactive, empathetic, and adaptable personality.
  • Strategic planning, budget management, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and cross-cultural communication, with resilience and self-awareness.
  • Having stable and reliable internet connection.
  • Proficiency in English.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of or experience with child helplines.
  • Experience working or living in Africa region.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese is an asset.

The ideal candidate will actively contribute to a supportive team environment and is capable of voicing their ideas, questions, and concerns.
