The centre is recognised as a Cancer Research UK Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence.About the roleThis is a new position in the UCL to work on a research programme focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie glioblastoma recurrence – an aggressive and incurable cancer of the brain – focusing on the role of quiescence and how it is controlled by intracellular signalling networks.The project will leverage state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based proteomic and phosphoproteomic approaches for the study of rare treatment resistant cells. A combination of molecular biology, and advanced proteomic and transcriptomic approaches will be used. The work is led by Professor Tariq Enver in the Stem Cell Research Group.The position is available from the end of September/ beginning of October 2024 until October 2025.About youThe successful candidate must have (or be studying) a PhD in cancer science or equivalent. Molecular biology such as lentiviral vector design, production and packaging, Western blotting, extraction and preparation of RNA and cDNA is essential as well as hands-on experience in stem cell isolation and culture.Candidate will have demonstrable practical experience with proteomics mass spectrometry, including sample preparation, method optimisation and data acquisition. They will have the ability to analyse graphical and statistical data together with experience of presentation of data at local/national/international meetings.Experience in writing research proposals and scientific manuscripts would be desirable.Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £37,332 – £39,980 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.What we offerAs well as the exciting opportunities this role presents we also offer some great benefits some of which are below:
