The Antibody and Vaccine Group based in the Centre for Cancer Immunology in Southampton has a strong track-record in basic and translational immunology relating to developing therapeutic mAb for clinical examination. Over the last decade they have begun to better appreciate the role of myeloid cells in determining the efficacy of antibody therapeuticsNow, in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim they are beginning a new project aimed at targeting these myeloid cells to overcome immune suppression and elicit better therapy. Profs Mark Cragg and Stephen Beers, alongside Dr Stephen Thirdborough, aim to leverage the significant antibody capabilities and expertise at Boehringer to develop new and more effective antibody reagents for cancer patients. The current opportunity is for a research fellow to join the team to help discover and augment mAb capable of manipulating myeloid cells to elicit powerful anti-tumour responses, with the potential for the discovery of novel anti-cancer therapeutics,You will be motivated, educated in a relevant subject area and have practical laboratory experience of antibody biology and antibody engineering. Experience of myeloid cell biology would be an advantage but is not critical.
